There Is Nothing Wrong With Redskins Fans Speaking With Their Wallets And Not Going To Games As A "Fuck You" To Dan Snyder
The Fan DC - It was a sea of blue at FedEx Field Sunday.
The Dallas Cowboys were in town to play the Washington Redskins and by judging from the crowd the game looked like it took place closer to Arlington, Texas than Arlington, Va.
But did the players on the field notice? You bet. Does it make life harder for the now 0-2 Redskins?
“Obviously it’s hard, when you’re playing a home game and the away team is outnumbering you in fans,” Redskins tackle Morgan Moses told The Sports Junkies Monday.
“It’s hard as an offense to be on the field and it’s super loud and it’s hard for (our) defense that they’re cheering for the opponent’s offense,” Moses told The Junks. “Obviously we would like to see more of our die-hard fans there.”
“I know they want us to win and obviously, we want to win, but the crowd makes a difference, man,” Moses said. “We need every person, every fan that’s a die-hard Redskins fan to be there. We need that.”
What will the crowd be like next week when the Skins have a Monday night home game against the Chicago Bears?
“We would love to have more fans,” Moses said.
I’ve talked about this a few times because it becomes a “thing” every year- Redskins fans not going to games. And here’s the facts- Redskins fans are among the most loyal in the league. I mean each and every year we come back to the team after another great offseason saying “this is the year we put it all together and make a run!”. And each and every year we are cursing out Dan Snyder in our sleep before week 8. But we come crawling back against our better judgement every single season, only to have something even more ridiculous and embarrassing happen (last year Mark Sanchez was our starting QB. Mark Sanchez.).
So when Morgan Moses, who leads the league in holding penalties, says “we would love to have more fans”, the thing is- we’re out here, but we just know better than to give Dan Snyder a penny more of our money. We’ve been loyal to the Skins for 20 years and he’s done NOTHING in return to earn our money. He has slapped us in the face more times than I can count. He treats his employees like trash, he treats the fans like trash, he runs his organization like trash.
I do feel bad for the players though. They want to have fans out there, no doubt about it. But when it’s an organizational problem from the top, fans showing up means they are content with how things are going. The more embarrassing FedEx Field is, the better. Change has to be inspired from somewhere. I honestly have no idea what it will take for institutional change at this point. Attendance is way down, TV ratings are way down, fan morale is way down, everything under the sun is way down. And now, in week 2, players are already calling out the fans. Not gonna work, my dude. We’ve been down this road far too many times. We’ve shown up time after time after time only to be once again punished and abused. We’ve paid $50 for parking, $15 for a hot dog, and $20 for a beer to then be picked apart by backups quarterbacks while Dan Snyder pays Native Americans to sit in his box with him to try and get a positive PR piece written about him.
All we can do is stop handing Dan Snyder our money. There’s so many better places to spend it than FedEx fucking Field. Still love the team, love the players who give it their all (so not Josh Norman), but cannot support Danny Boy. Cannot, will not.
