Dad Saves Son From Fiery NASCAR Crash
I picture my 2003 Honda CR-V on fire in the parking lot of my parent’s apartment. In a panic, my clearance-rack dangly necklaces from The Loft tangle around the seatbelt & I’m stuck. My dad looks down from the porch, sips his wine, and thinks about the time I got arrested with a 40oz directly in front of a small, county jail. The flames get higher. He swirls the wine in his glass & recalls the moment I failed Algebra for the second time and then lied about it. The idea of saving me slowly marinates…
Nahhh, he’d be down there getting me out ASAP. Right, Dad?
Dad?
Luckily for Mike Jones, his pops didn’t hesitate when his NASCAR Late Model 100 spun out & caught fire at the South Boston Speedway in Virginia over Father’s Day weekend. A member of his son’s pit crew, Dean Jones instantly hopped the wall & ignored the fire to free his trapped son before the rescue crews even arrived.
From a conversation with WDBJ-TV:
“I didn’t have time to be afraid. I had to get my son out of that car.” – Dean Jones
“If I had to place a bet on who would’ve pulled me out, I would’ve bet it was him,” – Mike Jones
Pretty cool bond they have there & hope they have better luck at the next race.
*Looking forward to text from my dad confirming that of course he would save me.
