Last Night's Knicks Opener Was AWESOME

Atlanta Hawks v New York Knicks

BIG MOOD:

Nothing like an Opening Night blowout victory over the Hawks to get every Knicks fan on the planet fired up for the season and lump some unreasonable expectations on a young team! I know Atlanta will likely be one of the teams the Knicks may be battling for the number 1 pick in May. But goddamn that was a fun way to kick off the year, especially since the night started out with some peak Knicks shit like Lance Thomas being the last player introduced, which is a far cry from the old PAT-RICK EWING call.

And a Knicks fan hitting a halfcourt shot before the Knicks hit a field goal.

Then the Knicks turned into the Bizzaro Knicks by hitting almost every shot they took and casually scoreing the most 2nd quarter points in franchise history for a franchise that has been around FOR-EV-ER (lets not talk about how many championship banners have been raised in that timeframe though).

The two players that sparked a lot of that outburst were Tim Hardaway Jr. and Enes Kanter. When Timmy is Good Timmy, he is an absolute game changer and you almost forget how much his contract is. When Timmy is Bad Timmy, I go on the Trade Machine and try to figure out how we can move him after his next Good Timmy game without taking back a lemon in salary. Kanter was a beast on the boards and got things moving with his energy and weird ass haircut. Here is the Knicks homeless man’s version of the Heat’s old Hardaway to Mourning fast break.

I think we all went into last night’s game with lowered expectations for Kevin Knox after a slow preseason and him getting sent to the bench so Frankie Smokes could get a start. And after a 4-16 night from the field that ended in 10 points, I am happy those expectations were lowered.

However, you have to love him going on Instagram after the game and getting his JJ Watt on with a video like this.

The other rookie Knicks fans were inducting to Springfield this preseason was Mitchell Robinson, who left the game after 1 minute and didn’t return after getting hurt. Still no word on what’s going on with him.

Luckily the third rookie that Knicks fans are over the moon for provided the biggest exclamation point of the night while also contributing 15 points.

Something tells me Iso Zo and the MSG crowd (which was awesome last night) is going to be a match made in heaven. Especially with fun facts like this.

I can’t forget to shout out Mario Hezonja, who I neglected to mention in my preview blog. In most Knicks seasons where we didn’t have any exciting rookies due to trading our picks, injuries, or poor drafting, Super Mario would be front and center as the object of irrational Knicks fan lust. Instead he’s just one of a bunch of Knicks that are young and exciting. I remember being told that the Knicks didn’t even draft the best foreign player after selecting KP and instantly becoming terrified because Mario’s highlights looked so good. Well now we have both of them and even though KP was obviously out, Mario looked great.

All in all it was a fun win for a fun team with a coach that everybody seems to love.

If only they could all be against the Hawks. Now lets keep it rolling against Brooklyn on Friday, pray to God it isn’t a bloodbath against the Celtics on Saturday, and see how fun this season can get before the annual Christmas Day game that somehow always leads to four depressing months. I still want the Knicks to tank the fuck out of this season, but having 30 more games as fun as this against the worst teams in The Association would be awesome. Now will someone please show this blog to Kevin Durant?

Also shout out to Vince Carter for still hustling at the ripe old age of 41 on a team whose halftime entertainment is a Top 3 exciting player on the team.
