A Live Reading Of "Space Jam" During NBA All Star Weekend Will Be Cool And All, But They Need To Have A Concert Of The Soundtrack Too

space1

CBS Sports- If you’re going to be in Toronto for NBA All-Star weekend, here is some important news: There will be a live read of Space Jam on Saturday, Feb. 13.  The event is a “celebration of Space Jam’s 20th anniversary” and will have “an exciting lineup of talent from the sports and entertainment worlds,” according to the TIFF Next Wave film festival website. There is no word yet on who exactly will be taking part, but here’s hoping this is as good as the live read that took place at the UCB Theater in Los Angeles in 2014, which featured Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, Nick Kroll, Seth Green and Paul Scheer, among others.

Listen, I love Space Jam for a million reasons.  I love basketball.  I grew up watching Looney Tunes.  Bill Murray is a God.  And I’m a sucker for cartoon + live action movies. I mean Roger Rabbit is in my Top 50 along with Space Jam.  So I love the idea of a Space Jam live reading during NBA All Star Weekend (easily the best All Star Weekend in the four major sports despite it usually being somewhat disappointing).  Unless this is all a set up to have LeBron read the Michael Jordan role as a way to loosen us up for him starring in a potential Space Jam 2.  Fuck that noise.

But the true star of Space Jam was the soundtrack

Just a ridiculous compilation of incredible music.  R. Kelly.  Method Man.  LL Cool J.  Seal.  The Quad City motherfucking DJs.  And the most underrated songbird of our generation, Monica.  Just a murderers row.  And I imagine those artists are cashing in a ton of royalties right now.  So a live performance of the Space Jam soundtrack shouldn’t be too much of a stretch.  Let Drake open for them to get all the Canucks on their feet and then run the soundtrack all the way through.  Do the right thing, Toronto.  You somehow fucked up having Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter on the same team.  You owe it to Raptors fans and you owe it to your country to make this happen.

P.S. What are the odds that Space Jam just made it to Canada like a week ago and they are all just really excited about it and want to do a live reading?  I feel like there is a pretty good chance that this is exactly the case.
