Chaps' Speech At The 2018 HeadStrong Gala
Headstrong speech from Chaps McNealy on Vimeo.
On Thursday, the Zero Blog Thirty squad went to the Headstrong Gala. It was a great event that raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for veterans to get mental health care which is one of the things I’m most passionate about. Without that care, I wouldn’t be the person I am. Without that care, I’m not sure I’d be here.
We got to speak with many awesome folks. We spoke with veterans from damn near every single conflict from World World II to now and it was an incredibly humbling experience to be a part of. Like a true officer, Capt Cons had some thoughts as well. Here are his notes.
Last week the ZBT crew got all gussied up and headed out on the town. Maybe you saw. Maybe you heard on the radio that we all looked very nice despite my lack of hair and Chaps’ button. Dave even maneuvered his way through a compliment about Kate without getting #MeToo’ed. We are the best-looking podcast and it’s not close.
Jokes aside, we were out last week because Zero Blog Thirty has become a beacon for Veterans who need help and we were graciously honored as a result. I do not believe Chaps set that as one of his goals when he started a military podcast. However, it has transformed into something that became the reason some Veterans got the help they needed to go on with their life. Listening to Chaps deliver his acceptance speech at last night’s HeadStrong Project Gala moved me. Hearing him profess what Zero Blog Thirty has meant to our Veteran community gave me chills knowing that we are having a tangible effect on people’s lives. I long maintained that playing football at West Point (shoutout me) would be my greatest accomplishment. I now believe my work for fellow Veterans will trump that.
To learn more about what HeadStrong does, listen to the latest episode of Zero Blog Thirty. We had executive director Joe Quinn on the show as well as former UFC Champion and Army Sergeant Randy Couture.
PS: my button wasn’t that tight most of the night. I need to learn how to pose. I’m a posing idiot of the highest level.
