The NBA's Crazy Outside Shooting Is Translating To Fans Half Court Shots
As I talked about yesterday, this first week of the NBA season has been ridiculous in terms of offense and outside shooting. Teams are scoring more than ever, taking and making the most threes ever, and there are an astounding 31 players who are averaging 3 3PM a night. It’s bananas, but also awesome for people who love high scoring basketball. Well, something weird is happening because it looks like whatever basketball voodoo Adam Silver has put on the league so that players never miss is starting to impact fans and their attempts to win money shooting halfcourt shots. You may remember last week, we had this Knicks fan win 10k
Sure the actual basketball team hadn’t made a basket yet, but that dude was nails and walked away with a chunk of cash. Pretty impressive, but nothing to garner any suspicion because we have seen this happen from time to time. Well, then there was last night, where this LA bro had an opportunity to win 30K, and guess what, he nailed that as well
The Lakers desperately need three point shooting, so are we sure they shouldn’t give this guy a look? Here’s the thing, I get that this normally happens a handful of times throughout the NBA season, but we’re literally 7 days into the NBA season and I’m supposed to believe it’s a coincidence that players are shooting this well and fans are coming onto the floor and making these shots as well? Are the balls juiced or something? Normally I love these half court attempts, because usually it’s like Jim from accounting coming on the court with a jersey over his work shirt and he doesn’t come anywhere close. Shoots it like a complete psychopath and it tends to make me giggle because I have a simple brain. I just can’t remember this many people making half court so close together. Am I wrong with this? Does it happen way more frequently than I thought and I’m way off base? I feel like I watch a lot of basketball and I only see this maybe 3 of 4 times all year, and here we have it twice in a week. That feels strange.
So as a result, if you are a Game Ops person, or you work for an NBA team and are in charge of picking people for this sort of thing, I’d like to officially throw my name into the ring. It seems like everyone is making this shot and walking away with 10s of thousands of dollars and I am someone who likes money (see: nose, last name). I’ll fly wherever, even a random Grizzlies/Kings game that nobody wants to go to, doesn’t matter to me. Some people will play the Lottery now that it’s such a high number, but I’m thinking the better play is to find your way onto an NBA court during halftime or a TV timeout and walk away with straight cash homie.
