Joey Votto Has Now Homered Out Of All Nine Spots In The Order

Joey Votto and his weird ass stats strike again! A day after popping out to first for the first and only time in his career, he makes history by leading off the game with a solo jack – the only spot in the batting order which he hadn’t homered out of. I haven’t the slightest of clues how rare of a feat this is, but it certainly feels out of the ordinary. For example, here’s Barry Bonds’ splits batting in all nine holes in the lineup:

Listen, if I’ve said it once I’ve said it a thousand times: Barry Bonds cannot produce out of the eight hole. That guy stinks out loud. Ted Williams: ZERO career dingers out of the leadoff spot; FIVE bombs when he was hitting ninth, down at the bottom of the order where that bum belonged. Babe Ruth?

P-U! Stick to pitching, George.

Apparently this is rare, based off my sample size of exactly three other players. It’s also wild that baseball has such meticulous stats going back a literal hundred years but that’s a discussion for another time. Joey Votto is the weird baseball stats GOD and will be respected as such. This dinger was also only his second career home run off an 0-2 count, which is less surprising because I think Joey Votto has only ever seen two career 0-2 counts.
