Baker Mayfield Took An Unprovoked Shot At Giants Fans Saying That Odell Beckham Jr. Will Finally Play In Front Of Fans Who Actually Show Up And Care

What the fuck was that, Baker? Myself and I imagine most Giants fans have always rooted for Baker Mayfield because if you don’t love a guy who went from walk-on to college starter to Heisman winner to number 1 pick with swag like this, you are either an asshole, fan of a Big XII team other than Oklahoma, a Bengals/Ravens/Steelers fan, or Colin Cowherd (I guess I covered him with the asshole part of that list).

But I don’t get this direct shot at Giants fans as we continue to bleed out online during the Dave Gettleman Era. We already have to deal with how shitty life will be if Sam Darnold, Josh Allen (both of them) and Josh Rosen become stars because the Giants passed on them. Being able to enjoy Baker Mayfield and not cry in our beers about our team passing on him since he wasn’t on the board was actually a pretty sweet silver lining outside of Saquon Barkley already being the best running back in football.

I understand Baker wants to support his new nuclear-grade weapon and some dinosaur Giants fans were dicks because they didn’t like Odell catching footballs with one hand or *gasp* having fun while playing football. Yes, this was actually stuff some Giants fans got mad about as the rest of the franchise crumbled around them. However, the large majority of us were cheering on Odell, buying enough of his jerseys to put it in the Top 5 of NFL jerseys sold, and defended Odell from the haters of which there are MANY. From the partying on a boat in Miami less than a week before a playoff game to stupid unsportsmanlike conduct penalties to fighting kicking nets to getting caught on film with a girl that may or may not have been doing cocaine. Every other week we were going to the mat defending Odell and loving who he is. In fact, the only part of me that was happy once Odell got shipped to Cleveland was knowing I would no longer have to defend him from all the jackals online. But the other 99% of me (which is a lot of me since I am a massive human) was CRUSHED that Odell got traded.

As for the whole “Playing in front of fans who actually care” thing, that’s kind weird because the NFL keeps track of things like that. And as Tiko Texas once told us, Numbers Never Lie.

That takes care of the show up part. I know the Browns were 0-16 in 2017. But the Giants were the second worst team in football that year and were much worse as well as borderline unwatchable at points last season. You want to talk about the franchise that has devolved into a circus the last few years treating Odell poorly or that the GM who consistently said the Giants didn’t sign Odell to trade him before trading Odell a few weeks later? That’s fine. Shit I’ll fucking join you. But don’t give Giants fans any shit for not caring, especially after what you said about playing here LAST YEAR.

“I’d love to be drafted anywhere honestly, but to be able to play on a New York team, in the spotlight , the pressure, that’s something I really enjoy. Having to live up to a high standard is something … I love setting expectations and standards high so that’s two spots that would work pretty well for me.”

As for the care part, I’m pretty sure Giants fans do indeed care about their team, whether they are winning Super Bowls or completely bungling seasons or draft picks. They may be one of the quieter fanbases in the league because a lot of time it’s a bunch of old ass people from the Tri-State Area that have passed down season tickets for generations. But we all know every fanbase has their own way of expressing their fanhood or frustration with their team/ownership.

So please Baker, I am pleading for you to stop taking shots at us. Not only as a Giants fan that is also a Baker fan. But as a Mets/Knicks fan that knows what Browns fans have felt like every season before last season. Let me enjoy Cleveland fans being happy as much as I can while also watching Odell fulfill his potential on a real NFL offense that my team couldn’t provide the last 4 years.

Actually I don’t know why I’m getting all bent out of shape. The Giants QB of the Future has never thrown an interception and is above all that trash talk and swag bullshit.
