Kenjac's 20 Movies You Should Stream This Week

1. Jarhead

For my money, Jarhead is one of the best war movies ever made. It deals more with the psychological toll and has fantastic performances from top-to-bottom alongside incredible directing from Sam Mendes (Jarhead, Revolutionary Road) and fantastic cinematography from the KING Roger "Freaky" Deakins (The Shawshank Redemption, Fargo, A Beautiful Mind, Skyfall, Sicario, Blade Runner 2049, 1917 etc etc etc)

2. The Patriot 

It's corny hyperbole, but still such a great movie in my eyes. Jason Isaacs' Tavington remains one of my favorite bad guy performances in cinema, and "Aim small, miss small" is a regular in my quote dictionary despite only using it when trying to piss while drunk. Also, the ambush rescue of Heath Ledger? Talk about outstanding action sequences, sheesh. 

3. Hail, Caesar!

This is a really slept on Coen Brothers movie, and I understand why. It doesn't really pack the same sort of punch as their usual stuff, and it's a tad slow. But the characters that are built in this movie are so rich and funny and exceptionally acted across the board. This scene is a great example. 

4. Enemy

I think I'm just going to make a point to include a Denis Villeneuve movie every time I do one of these. If you like freaky psychological thrillers, this will definitely tickle your fancy. Jake G acts his balls off and this has you gripped from the word go. 

5. The Naked Gun

I shouldn't have to convince you here. This is one of the great comedy classics and it still holds up after all this time. 

1. BlacKkKlansman

(Full Review Here) This is one of my favorite Spike Lee movies, and it will probably be one of yours too when you watch it. Besides the fantastic leading performance John David Washington, it also has great co-starring roles and tertiary roles from Topher Grace, Ryan Eggold and Paul Walter Hauser. 

2. The Fighter

The odds are that if you're reading this, you're from the New England area and have already seen this. You may not know that it has come to streaming, though. It's one of Wahlberg's best dramatic roles and also possibly Christian Bale's best. 

3. Commando 

'Commando' is an action classic that has some of my favorite one-liners from all the 80's movies combined. "Hey Sully, remember when I said I'd kill you last?"

4. Bad Education

We reviewed this on LCB last week, and our consensus is that it is definitely worth the watch. For my fellow Long Islanders, watch it just to see Allison Janney's attempt at our accent alone. 

5. In Bruges

Watch this movie. You'll love it and swear by it if you have any taste whatsoever for dark comedies. 

1. The Dark Knight

I'm not giving you a fucking write up on this. Just giving you a heads up that it's available on Hulu.

I think this movie deserved more play. There is great thriller moments and a really great dose of comedy throughout. 

3. The Cabin In The Woods

Humor and Horror aren't always a flawless mix, but Cabin in the Woods is proof that it can be done to perfection. 

4. The Sisters Brothers

I recommend this with a warning: It's a very European style western. I liked it, especially the chemistry between Joaquin Phoenix and John C. Reilly. You may not feel the same, though. 

5. If Beale Street Could Talk

This was one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen and I'll be forever pissed off that it got snubbed at the Oscars. Barry Jenkins is one of the best directors in the game right now, and Beale street is a great entry point for his work. 

1. You Were Never Really Here

There is a lot of Joker vibes to this movie, and not just because it's Joaquin. It's really dark and brooding, but the performance is off the charts. 

2. Manchester By The Sea

This movie is really fucked up and depressing, but also undeniably well done. Right now might not be the best time to watch it, but maybe you took some molly or something and want to come back to earth, I don't know. 

3. Instant Family 

Here is a polar-opposite switch from Manchester by the Sea. Instant Family is a feel-good movie that is very delightful for the whole family. 

4. Zombieland

Zombieland is a familiar and fun movie. Plus it stars 2x recurring guest of the pod Jesse Eisenberg. 

5. Mississippi Burning

This is suspenseful and dark, but a great watch for those who love crime movie. Also, Hackman and Dafoe are a baller combination.
