FREE BELLARMINE: The Idiots At The NCAA And Their Asinine Rules Just Gave Jacksonville State The Most Pathetic Bid In Tournament History

I think I actually am cheering for Jacksonville State to get embarrassed in the NCAA Tournament now. There's nothing more I want than for them to lose by 100 in the first round. Why? Simple. They don't deserve to be there. Bellarmine does. But the NCAA has the dumbest rule in sports history. I blogged about it on Sunday but it's worth talking about again now that Bellarmine won the A-Sun.

That's right Bellarmine won the A-Sun and they can't go to the NCAA Tournament. All because of this asinine transition rule. They moved from Division II to Division I a few years ago but according to the NCAA you're not allowed to be eligible for the Tournament for 4 years. FOUR YEARS. Why? To prevent teams from jumping up and taking Division I level. Good thing there's 358 teams. Phew, that protection is really working!

Now back to Jacksonville State, because you might be confused. They get the automatic bid for being the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. Makes sense UNTIL you realize they lost to Jacksonville in the semis. The same Jacksonville team that Bellarmine just beat. So congrats. The whole thing is a sham. I know people may say why would the A-Sun let them play. My counter point is why not? Give these guys a chance to compete for a title which clearly they are good enough to win. Good enough to win despite the refs clearly hosing them late with back-to-back horrendous calls to let Jacksonville cut the lead to six.

Oh and if you haven't watched Bellarmine, its offense is pure basketball porn. Everything is reliant on cutting, passes and just destroying defenses. It's legit beautiful.

So congrats to Bellarmine. It's some bullshit they don't let you dance but we'll congratulate them. They need to show up to Indy in the next week or so and set up a whole parade right in front of NCAA headquarters. Shit, I'll come help and show up. Put me on a float and let me launch t-shirts to the NCAA workers.

Mickey Mouse bid.
