Nobody Loves It More Than A 13 YEAR Minor Leaguer Who Is Finally Called Up To The Show

CBS Sports - The Pirates selected the contract of Maggi from Double-A Altoona on Sunday.

Maggi will take the place of Bryan Reynolds on the 26-man roster with Reynolds placed on the bereavement list. The 33-year-old will have a chance to make his MLB debut if he gets into a game with Pittsburgh after spending 13 seasons in the minors with four different organizations.

There is absolutely nobody in the world who loves their job more than a journeyman minor league baseball player. You might think you know someone who loves their job, who grinds at it day and night, delivers newspapers and cleans shit out the racks, but nobody truly loves it more than a minor leaguer taking 12 hour bus rides from Birmingham to Corpus Christi for 13 YEARS before being called up to the show. Case in point, Drew Maggi.

Now, after a little research, he actually was called up to the Twins active roster in 2019 but never saw game time. I always root for these guys because I imagine that paycheck for 1 day on the active roster is better than 6 months down in the minors. One little taste of the majors makes it all worth it. No you're not getting rich, but a few nights in a 5 star hotel, a delicious breakfast where you don't have to fight children for the waffle batter at the Holiday Inn Express, and the ability to say for the rest of your life you are a major league baseball player, nothing is better than that.

So congrats to Drew. And if the Pirates don't put him in a game I think I will burn the city of Pittsburgh to the ground. Just let the dude play. You're the Pirates. Just let him play.
