I Cannot Get Enough Ron Artest Stories

Maybe it’s being a NYC kid playing in the same HS league as him, or maybe that I actually saw him play in high school as a kid, maybe it’s that he should have been a Knick , or that he’s absolutely baffling with some of the shit he’s done over his career but whatever the case, I can’t get enough of Ron Artest. 

He’s one of those guys I don’t necessarily even love because the crazy shit he’s done has been tough to root for, but he is without a doubt a guy I’m infatuated with knowing about and consuming his stories. He’s been around the league forever but if there’s even one more story I can get about him I would want it. 

This one is another that has me cracking up. The McDonald’s game is a glorified scrimmage nowadays, and even back when guys at least gave a shit it was half speed at max yet here’s Ron possibly not understand it’s an All Star Game and going 100% and threatening to snuff his teammates in the face. You only get that out of guys who want to win at all costs. Or guys from Brooklyn. Like my high school teammate, top 3 best player so ever played with who said at an alumni game 2 years ago “get me the ball I’m going for 30.” Some guys just can’t turn it off. Ron Artest … 1 speed and I hope he never changes. 

The other very funny part here is Brendan Haywood being terrified that Ron was dead serious. Once you see the crazy in someone’s eyes you won’t risk crossing them. 

This story is an all timer also. 

But this one is still the GOAT to me. I nearly cried laughing the first time I read it back on Grantland back in the day. 

Also .., if you haven’t watched the documentary about Ron Artest do so … it sheds a little more light on the makeup behind the man.
