Christina Aguilera Is Still Pissed That Britney Spears Got All The Shine For Lockin Lips With Madonna Even Though She Smooched The Shit Out of The GILF Too
Pop culture was forever transformed when Madonna kissed Britney Spears — and then Christina Aguilera — on stage at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards.
However, it has often been forgotten that when the Queen of Pop, 65, turned from Spears to kiss the “Dirrty” singer, 42, during the drama-packed event, the camera quickly cut away to show Justin Timberlake’s reaction to his ex’s sapphic smooch.
Now, in a new interview with Rolling Stone, former network president Van Toffler revealed that Aguilera and her team was furious over the split-second decision — and that they lobbied MTV hard to get the soon-to-be-legendary lip lock edited back into the show for future airings.
You know what? I'd be mad if I was Xtina too. She was ALWAYS having to share the shine with Britney even though you could argue that Christina was far more talented. To me, Britney's game was like Russel Westbrook. We've never really seen anything close to it but it doesn't have staying power. Once that flash of physical dominance is gone, it's hard to bring it back.
Vocally, Britney isn't on the same planet but Christina also didn't really make teenage kids like me run home so they might get one glimpse of the hallway dance scene.
TRL was basically tiktok at the time. If you weren't trending there, you weren't shit. Simple as that. So when ole Britney locked lips with Madonna, you knew that was gonna be the lead story for weeks. WEEKS. So when Christina's kiss was edited out or shortened, that was like being suspended on tiktok. Tough to win that way.
Christina's people did the only reasonable thing they could do. They asked for a re-edit. The trouble with the re-edit request is that you look thirsty. You look thirsty to have your kiss out there even more. Youre kiss horny. Youre horny for people to see you kiss Madonna. I understand it. I also understand that some people are calling such a request pathetic. I don't personally think it's pathetic, but I work in the content game. If you kiss Madonna for clout, you need that clout. It's that simple.
