Kodai Senga Will Be Shut Down, Open The Season On The IL, And Is Out Indefinitely With A Shoulder Injury As The Mets Start Metsing Extra Early This Year
You know, there was a time when hearing this news would have absolutely gutted me and ruined my entire day if not life. But at this point, I don't know if the Mets can even hurt me anymore thanks to countless let downs, embarrassments, and last season being the most joyless season I can recall in my 35+ years as a fan. Hearing the Mets only exciting starting pitcher is out indefinitely with a shoulder injury hurt me like a dead person being stabbed with a knife. Damage is clearly being done, but at least it's happening to someone that can handle it better than others.
As for the actual injury, I guess it's good news that it's not Tommy John like every Mets fan feared when we heard Kodai had arm fatigue yesterday? Mets fans know more than anyone just how frustrating an indefinite injury with timelines that constantly get pushed back are. But at least there hasn't been a death sentence slammed down on Senga's 2024 season, even though shoulder injuries have long scared the shit out of me. Especially when they are described like this.
I love having a super nerdy GM from Harvard. But please cut the shit with the injury announcements only a med school student would understand, even though Mets fans have plenty of knowledge with medical terms like anal fissures, valley fever, and whatever crazy shit Billy Eppler made up to stash a guy on the IL. Instead, just tell us which part of the body a Met has injured and how we should feel as fans using the Pain Scale.

The bad news is we didn't even get to full blown Spring Training before this video showed up, which is honestly impressive, even for a fucked up franchise like the Mets.
As for the other sad sack Mets fans in this world, the We Gotta Believe text chain hasn't sent a single message since this news dropped since our souls have been cut to ribbons and we are pretty much at the point when the world stopped reporting COVID numbers because it was clear that everything was fucked. Meanwhile we have a plane of pain that's about to take off and I'm not even sure who to pray for in this situation: Rico, Frank, the stranger, or every other passenger on that poor airplane.
