THIS LEAGUE: Angel Reese Picked Up a Flagrant Foul After Sending Caitlin Clark To The Floor During Today's Game
Oh baby — Twitter is going to have a field day with this one. This will undoubtedly lead off SportsCenter tonight. All of the talk shows will debate it tomorrow and probably for the rest of the week. And here’s my educated prediction of how it goes down (because we have precedent as to how it’ll be handled):
- Angel Reese will play the victim. She will also said it had nothing to do with Caitlin and she was just playing basketball
- The old heads of the WNBA and will say it’s just part of the game and to stop trying to make nothing into something
- Caitlin will take the high road in every aspect
And let’s be very clear: it’s not THAT BAD of a foul. It’s a Flagrant 1, as it should be. Happens all the time. But at what point does this “just part of the game” stop being a coincidence? And my favorite part is how she appears to be shocked a foul was even called! Even on the very next possession, I wish I had this clipped, because Caitlin got a one on one with Angel, who immediately comes up and puts two hands on her. Foul called, and ANGEL signals for the push off.
Either way, I’ll admit it, these two have me hooked on something I never thought I would be watching. I’m literally at the bar blogging this from my phone right now, and I had the waitress change the channel to CBS. She literally went and got the remote, came back to my table and said umm you sure you meant CBS? There’s “just a girls basketball game” on right now. Yeah, that’s Magic vs Bird you’re talking about. And Angel Reese just gave everyone more ammunition to keep talking about the WNBA for another month.
*By the way Caitlin cooked Angel, Chennedy, and the Sky with 23/9/8 leading the Fever to a win.
