USMNT Legend Brad Guzan Compares The Atmosphere In Premier League Matches vs. MLS Matches

USMNT legend Brad Guzan recently joined the podcast and shared some interesting thoughts on the differences in atmosphere between Premier League and MLS matches. As someone who’s played in both leagues, his perspective carries weight — and what he had to say might surprise a few fans.

Guzan, who currently plays for Atlanta United, compared the energy at Mercedes-Benz Stadium to what he experienced at Villa Park during his time with Aston Villa. While he acknowledges that the overall matchday experience in England is unique and deeply rooted in tradition, he believes that certain MLS clubs — Atlanta United being a prime example — can absolutely match the Premier League in terms of fan engagement and stadium energy.

“The passion from the fans, the energy in the stadium — it's there,” Guzan said. “It might look different than what you see in England, but it’s just as real.”

Guzan also emphasized that the success and atmosphere of an MLS club are largely dependent on ownership. According to him, when ownership is committed to growing the sport and building a true soccer culture, the results speak for themselves. He pointed out that while some MLS clubs have made massive strides in this area, others are still lacking due to indifferent or passive ownership.
