Always Be Golfing: JT Miller Will Now Have Another Chance To Qualify For The US Open Thanks To The Rangers Missing The Playoffs

JT Miller had to be pretty relieved when he was traded from Vancouver back to the New York Rangers earlier this year. His discontent with the Canucks, and primarily the tension between he and Elias Pettersson, were all pretty well documented. However, part of him also had to be just a little bit nervous.

The Rangers were a mess before the JT Miller trade, but I'm sure New York thought there would be a chance that adding his fiery personality and leadership qualities would be able to turn their season around. Getting back into the playoff picture was the goal here for the reigning Presidents Trophy winners. They were just a couple wins away from winning the Eastern Conference last season, so obviously they thought they'd have the pieces in place to make another deep run in the playoffs this year.

And that would put a huge dent in JT Miller's golf time. Good news for JT Miller is that even despite the trade, the Rangers are still complete and total ass. As much as I'm sure he'd love to be playing playoff hockey this season, he also has a US Open to try to qualify for.

JT Miller currently carries a 0.2 index.

The kid is a stick. Now there's obviously a difference between being a stick, and playing in the US Open. And it's not like he's had a ton of free time lately to really dial in his game. But if ever there's been a year to qualify for the US Open, it's this year at Oakmont. It's just a 45-minute drive from his home track at Sewickley Heights Golf Club. All it takes is 54 holes of puring the shit out of the ball.

He'd never have a shot at playing in the US Open if the New York Rangers weren't a bunch of losers who ultimately ended up 8 points out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. He'd never have a shot at playing in the US Open if the Rangers weren't 1 out of like 3 teams in the NHL who had a losing record at home.  If the New York Rangers weren't such a disaster who had a coach that doesn't even talk to the team in the locker room after games, he'd still be stuck playing hockey right now. But instead, he has a chance to qualify for the US Open 30 miles away from home.

Fortunately for him, the Rangers are all of those things. The Rangers are dog shit, and that's music to JT Miller's ears. The same as a perfectly striped iron shot. I can't wait to be the biggest JT Miller fan on Thursday at the US Open when he ends up qualifying.

Sidenote: Plays hockey left, golfs right. Just imagine how much of a menace he'd be on the course if he had a set of lefty clubs.
