Time To Dream: Happy Gilmore (A Real Person), Tony Romo And Danny Woodhead Are All Officially In Qualifiers To Try And Make The US Open
I absolutely love the qualifying portion of the US Open. It's a chance to get some of this. Danny Woodhead, Tony Romo, Happy Gilmore, Aaron Hicks, you name it, they have a chance to play in a major. Hell, three years ago Danny Woodhead almost did it:
It's all in the very early portion of this. For those who don't know, you have local qualifiers to advance to final qualifying. Part of final qualifying is on June 2, dubbed the golf's longest day. This year there are 10 locations on the day where a certain number of spots are available to go to the US Open. Players play 36 holes on that day, hence the name.
But this is about who is currently out there. We know all about the big names. But you're telling me we could get a Happy Gilmore in the US Open?
I want nothing more than these guys in the US Open. Okay, maybe not Romo. I'd prefer to see Romo make final qualifying and lose on the 36th hole in devastating fashion simply because I'm a man of tradition. But give me Danny Woodhead. Aaron Hicks? Sure, he's got nothing else going on right now because he's a free agent. Happy Gilmore? Without a doubt. That's an easy blog and that's all I care about. Content, content, content.
We've had one day of local qualifying so far and shout out the dude who went out and finished dead last with a 91. Took balls no to WD or DNF like some others. It's one of the reasons why the US Open is the best. You have a chance to go through qualifying as a nobody and make the thing.
