'It Was Toby's Dream' - Toby Keith's Horse Render Judgement Will Officially Be His First Horse To Run In The Kentucky Derby, Draws A Lucky Post Position
Welcome to one of the best weeks of horse racing during the year. It's basically Breeders Cup, Kentucky Derby and opening week in April for Keeneland as my clear cut top-3. You can talk me into opening week in October at Keeneland for a top-4. But you get the point. And we have our first storyline for the Derby. I'm not talking about Journalism being the favorite or anything like that, I'm talking about the late great Toby Keith finally getting a horse in the Derby:
It's not just that. He got the lucky post position:
What's lucky about 15? How about winning?
[Source] - According to Churchill Downs, post 15 has been “particularly advantageous in the last dozen years.”
The racetrack said several Kentucky Derby winners have come from that post including Orb (2013), American Pharoah (2015) and Authentic (2020).
Good enough for me to think of it as the perfect story. That's half of the Kentucky Derby. Every year you find a story with a horse owner or a connection to a post and people become drawn to it. Count me in, mostly because Toby Keith ruled. The guy put out awesome music and I will be playing Should Have Been A Cowboy on repeat this Saturday. Maybe a little Beer for My Horses considering the day. Absolutely will mix in I Wanna Talk About Me and How Do You Like Me Now?
So shout out Render Judgement who made it after Tappan Street had to pull out of the race due to injury. Kenny McPeek (the trainer) won last year, might as well run it back next year.
