A Man Who Lost $5,000 Cash And Got Contacted By The Police Trying To Return It Then Refused To Believe Them Is A Statement Of How Many Bullshit Calls We Get As A Society
UPI News - A Michigan State Police trooper's attempts to return $5,000 in lost cash to its owner were temporarily frustrated when the money's owner thought the calls were a scam.
The MSP said on social media that the trooper from the Monroe Post found the cash in the middle of Monroe's Huber Road on Friday.
The trooper contacted a nearby bank, which confirmed a customer had just made a withdrawal for the exact amount.
The trooper tried calling the person who took the money out from the bank, but soon discovered there was a problem.
"The subject must have been listening to our public service announcements on being a victim of fraud and believed he was being scammed and hung up on the trooper several times," the post said.
The person was eventually convinced that the calls were not a scam and claimed ownership of the lost money.
Great ending to what could have been a shitty story. You never want someone to lose any amount of money, let alone a big amount of money. I know I am in a hard place to say I root for people after today's events of holding a grudge in the neighborhood, but I do feel like I root for people.
Anyway, losing money SUCKS. Absolutely sucks. And the worst part is you know 99/100 times you aren't getting it back. It fell out of your pants or you left it on top of the car and then drove away, whatever. It sucks losing money, and it sucks more that you probably won't get it back.
However, in the 1 out of 100 chance you get the money back, especially of a sum this big, you would hope the person who even had any clue on how to find you. Well in this case, the guy completely lucked out that the trooper had to foresight to call the bank and connected the dots that someone had just taken out that amount of money. A very happy ending.
The part that jumped out to me though was the guy ignoring the calls because the thought they were fake. Now some people could blame this guy for hanging up on someone trying to help him but I'm going to zag here and defend this guy that the way society is today you have to assume EVERYTHING is a scam call. At no point would I ever believe someone is trying to help me or would I believe them that they found the money. I would have hung up too. That's unfortunately just a point of where we got to in society. Everything is a scam call. I'm not sure how we got to this point, but nonetheless the guy was right to have his doubts.
