The Sad, Sad Fall Of Mike Trout Continues As He Lands The IL With A Bone Bruise In His Knee After Leaving Wednesday's Game

Stop me if you've heard this one before, Mike Trout recently left a game with an injury. Shocking, right? I hate it as much as anyone that year after year we get this little, tiny flash of old Mike Trout and get kind of excited before inevitably losing him for a majority of the season with injuries. It sucks but this is just who he is now. A guy who is among the league leaders with 9 homers in 29 games but only 19 hits and his average sits at .179. He had been staying healthy in right field for this season until he came out of Wednesday nights game with left knee soreness after running out a ball to second.
He tried to beat the throw and really slams his foot and leg into the bag at first, that was some high impact on that knee. Didn't look smooth or good, just one of those plays that looks bad. Eventually he was pulled from the game and it was announced that he was getting further evaluations on the sore knee, never a good sign. Well those further evaluations came back and what do ya know, Trout will miss some time.
Ron Washington told reporters after Thursday nights game that Trout will be placed on the IL with a bone bruise in that left knee. Same knee that he had two surgeries on last season, not good! This is just an ongoing storyline with him every year now, looks more and more like he'll be joining Ken Griffey as an ultimate "what if" guy. It was a good sign he had played in every game so far this season, seems like right field and DHing has been helpful to this point. He didn't seem too concerned when talking about it at first, but obviously with him and his recent injury history you just never know how long this will keep him out. You almost have to assume he is injured before believing he's healthy with his track record.
Sucks to see him struggling on the field and continuing to rack up the injuries. I do think we are officially out of the "Era of Trout", it's done and it's been done. We pretty much have to accept that the old Trout isn't coming back. That 25 year old Trouty is long gone, we just want the 33 year old Trout to stay healthy. Let's hope serious injury is avoided and see if he can get back on track. It's not like this is a big blow to the Angels and their chances of making the playoffs, they're already a drowning team that can't score runs, they're 12-18, in last place in the AL West, have lost 6 straight and are 2-8 in their last 10. Another year where Trout is hurt and another year with the Angels missing the playoffs.
