The Juan Soto Slander Tour Ramped Up Again Amidst Reports That Soto's Family Made Him Choose The Mets, He Flies Private Jets To Road Games, And He Lacks Enthusiasm For His New Team

I knew that the Subway Series was going to bubble up all the Juan Soto hurt feelings and we would start getting stories like this leaking out in the aftermath, to which I say this:

Didn't we go through all this back in December when Soto signed with the Mets and there were rumors of issues with Yankees security snubbing the Sotos? I'm pretty sure we did. If not, shout out our beautiful queen Tía Alex Cohen for making the Mets such a family-friendly franchise along with the Soto family for choosing my beloved Mets over the Evil Empire Yankees. The Sotos are officially second in my Family Power Rankings behind only the Cohens (Yes, both families are ahead of my family, who hasn't done shit to make my sports life better ever).

Now if that was the only report out of the weekend I would be fine with it since Juan Soto leaving the Yankees was THE baseball story of the offseason. However we also got this nugget:

I mean, listen, we're talking about enthusiasm. Not a game! Not a game! Not a game! We're talking about enthusiasm. Not a game. Not the game that Juan goes out there and dies for and plays every game like it's his last. Not the game. We're talking about enthusiasm, man. I mean, how silly is that? We're talking about enthusiasm. I know Juan's supposed to be enthusastic, I know Juan's supposed to lead by example, I know that. And I'm not shoving it aside like it don't mean anything. I know it's important. I do. I honestly do. But we're talking about enthusiasm, man. What are we talking about? Enthusiasm? We're talking about enthusiasm, man!

If that story and subsequently dated remixed rant wasn't enough, we also got chatter about Juan Soto flying private jets to road games!

Which was then debunked by Jeff Passan:

You know how angry Jeff Passan must've been that he had to use a Passan Bomb about Juan Soto not flying private to road games? The only advantages ESPN has on the rest of the sports world is the ungodly amounts of live games and insiders who break news before everyone else. One of those insiders having to water down their feed to report how a player is traveling to road games isn't good for The Company Formerly Known As The Worldwide Leader In Sports.

Juan Soto is a great player and future Hall of Famer. But I can't understand for the life of me why everyone is losing their minds over him like this. I get that the Yankees never lost out on a player they wanted over money. However to get upset about a player going somewhere else for a shit ton of cash is flat out bananas considering that's been the Yankees calling card since they literally bought Babe Ruth from the Red Sox more than a century ago. It would be like the Greyjoys in Game of Thrones complaining about other houses pillaging the Iron Islands when given the chance. I mean I get it as someone who hated Mike Hampton for leaving the Mets for the giant mountains of money great school districts in Colorado. But if everyone is still as truly happy that the Yankees spent their money on the Fried, Goldschmidt, Williams, Bellinger consolation prize pupu platter as they say they are, you think they'd just let it go.

Regardless of why Soto left or how he feels, all that matters to me is the Mets winning and considering they are tied for the best record in the NL despite their two biggest pitching signings of the offseason being hurt all year, so far so good. Hope he gets used to what it's like being covered from the team on the other side of town because that's just how the shit rolls here until you start winning consistently.
