Nate's Night Of Champions Quick Preview and Predictions

Screen Shot 2015-09-18 at 1.39.53 PM

Night of Champions is on Sunday, and as I occasionally do with WWE PPVs, I thought I’d preview this one and give my predictions. I actually did pretty well with my SummerSlam predictions, but I’m skeptical about Sunday’s. Lots of matches can go either way. But I’ll just go based on my gut and see what I can do:

Stardust and The Ascension vs. Neville and the Lucha Dragons - Man. Imagine how cool this match would be without The Ascension slowing it down. Should just be Stardust vs Neville in a ladder match. Both guys are trying so hard to get over and out of the pre-match, let’s just put them in a ladder match and see them work their magic. Sucks that after Neville had one of the best matches of the year on Raw vs Rollins he was kind of pushed back down, but he’s young and talented so he’ll work his way up at some point. The Ascension are slow and boring, but maybe being repackaged with Stardust can put their careers back on track. And the Lucha Dragons are always a hit with their high flying abilities. I want to see Neville win because I’m such a mark for him, but it would make sense if they let Stardust and The Ascension win to grab some sort of credibility.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Rusev - Short answer: WHO CARESSSSSSS. This feud has been the worst thing on TV for months. Lana is out with injury, and Ziggler has been the heel in this feud but the stupid crowds still chant USA! and boo Rusev for whatever reason. Time to just turn Ziggler heel and try to revitalize his career, because this entire program with Rusev has been a catastrophe. As for Rusev…who didn’t see this coming??! Was in the big feud with Cena, got buried by Cena, and now is about to be irrelevant. This dude came out on a tank at Wrestlemania! Figure it out! Just unfortunate that they have no idea how to write meaningful story lines. My prediction: Ummmmm, Rusev wins via DQ.

Tag Team Championship Match: The New Day (c) vs. The Dudley Boyz – The New Day are the darlings of the WWE right now. Hilarious, entertaining, good in the ring, great on the mic. The whole package. Vince McMahon even tweeted about them the other day. Vince Fucking McMahon. That kinda means…a lot. The New Day are supposed to be the heels, but come on, they are the most over tag team since the glory days of the Hardys and Dudleys and Edge and Christian.  I assume they retain after the Dudleys put them through a table. There’s no reason to take the straps off the New Day. Feel the powah!

Intercontinental Championship Match: Ryback (c) vs Kevin Owens - This one is tough. The IC belt keeps bouncing around, this match is based off them feuding about a book (sorta), Ryback is a crowd favorite but can’t cut a promo, Owens is the douchey heel from Canada. Owens picked up the win over Cesaro (hey remember him!?) at SS, so no need to kill his momentum now. Strap him with the IC belt. #FightOwensFight #BlogNateBlog

Divas Championship Match: Nikki Bella (c) vs. Charlotte - Nikki is your new record holder for most days in a row holding the Divas Belt. A record she holds because WWE wanted to spite CM Punk and his wife AJ Lee for leaving the company, as Lee was the old record holder. So now that that’s over and done with, the real “Divas Revolution” can begin. Which means Charlotte winning the belt here. I need Charlotte to win and then Sasha run down to the ring to congratulate her…and then beat the shit out of her. Sasha should be in the WWE Women’s Belt picture for the next 10 years. Let’s start that on Sunday, shall we?

Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper and Braun Strowman vs. Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns and Mystery Man - Actually a really interesting match. Bray, Luke, and Strowman are gigantic. All three can wrestle (Strowman more-so throws people at this point, but you get the point) and are a lot of fun to watch. Ambrose always does huge spots at PPVs, Reigns is steadily improving, and Mystery Man can be anyone. A lot of people think it’s masked Kane to which I beg and pray it’s not. Samoa Joe is another big rumor circulating, which I don’t think would be the right move quite yet. Sliver of a chance it’s Daniel Bryan, but from what I read it’s unlikely. There’s a few NXT guys it could be like Baron Corbin, who would fit in nicely with the shield. I just don’t want the Shield going the way of DX where there’s like 10 random people who were once in it. I hope they really go outside the box with the 3rd member. As for who wins…Reigns gets the pin, obviously.

United States Championship Match: Seth Rollins (c) vs. John Cena – Another one that’s really hard to predict. The thing is, I don’t see Rollins walking out with ONLY the US Title. I think he can walk out with the WWE Championship after losing to Cena though, which kinda is just saying LOLSting. There’s no great way to book this that I can think of. Can’t have Cena lose to Rollins and then Sting beat Rollins clean. What can happen is Rollins can win this match and then lose to Sting via DQ with The Authority’s interference- Rollins’ face turn. There’s a few possibilities like that, they can take this lots of ways. As it stands, I think Cena wins because that’s what John Cena does. The question is- how long before Cena wins the belt, so then he can break Ric Flair’s record at Mania? Because that’s my prediction- they let Cena break the record in front of 90,000+ at Mania at Cowboy’s Stadium.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match: Seth Rollins (c) vs. Sting - I have ZERO problem with Stinger winning here. He’s a respected veteran of the game, it would be a nice touch if he held the most important belt in wrestling once before he rode off into the sunset. Doesn’t mean Vince gives a fuck about what is “nice” though. Sting was the last holdout from WCW and he already lost to HHH at Mania. He’s here cashing paychecks and getting nostalgic reactions. If he wins it wouldn’t be the first or last time they gave the belt to an old part-timer. And we know he won’t hold the belt for long. But do you really want Seth Rollins, who the WWE has heavily invested in as their top guy for the next decade, losing to a 56 year old? Therin lies the question. It certainly won’t be a clean finish if Sting wins. (Maybe Goldberg comes and spears Rollins while the ref isn’t watching!) If Sting does win, I DO NOT want Sheamus cashing in his Money in the Bank contract. You know the best way to get everyone to watch Monday Night Football and nobody to watch Monday Night Raw? Give the belt to fucking Sheamus. That guy sucks, nobody likes seeing him on TV, and it most definitely is not what is best for business.

This is an interesting PPV because lots of story lines can go lots of different ways. It’s hard to say what they have planned for many of the matches. Even if every prediction I made is wrong, there is lots of potential here. Just have to hope they don’t fuck it up!
