Sting Officially Retiring From Wrestling

Source - Sad news today for all you Little Stingers, or for anyone who was hoping that Sting vs. Undertaker match was happening one day. According to a report from TMZ, WCW legend and 2016 WWE Hall of Fame inductee Sting is expected to formally retire from wrestling due to the severity of his neck injury. The announcement is said to be happening as part of Sting’s induction speech the night before WrestleMania. Sting was injured during his WWE World Heavyweight Championship match with Seth Rollins at the Night of Champions event in 2015. He was shaken up after a buckle bomb and could barely finish the match, and in December we found out he’d require neck surgery. The diagnosis was “cervical spinal stenosis,” and sadly at age 56, there’s no coming back from that.

Well that’s a blower. I guess as the old saying goes, “don’t make a return to wrestling at 56 years old if you don’t want your neck to explode into a million pieces”. Somehow I don’t think “cervical spinal stenosis” is a very comfortable condition to have, nor do I imagine it’s the way Sting wanted to hang up the baseball bat. He joined WWE, the last holdout from the WCW legends, and lost both his match to to HHH and to Seth Rollins, because well, that’s what you get for being loyal to your old company.

If you grew up watching wrestling, Sting was the man. For me, there was Kane in WWF, and Sting in WCW who made me poop my pants whenever I saw them. Sting repelling down from the rafters (we know how safe that is!) was the most ridiculous thing ever.

I shit my pants just thinking about this:

Heckuva career for Sting, and glad he’s being inducted into the HOF, and hopefully he sticks around and does cool things with the company.
