A High School Student Who Bravely Kept Living After Banging And Knocking Up His Teacher Just Got A $6 Million Settlement Too
LA Times – A former student who fathered a child with a onetime Redlands schoolteacher convicted of having sex with him and two other students will receive a $6-million settlement from the school district, officials said.
Vince Finaldi, an attorney for the [unidentified] former high school student, said the egregious conduct of Redlands Unified School administrators in the case warranted what may be one of the largest single-victim sex abuse settlements by a public agency.
“The size of this settlement represents the gravity of the damage done to this young victim and his family and it also highlights the extreme malfeasance and neglect by school officials who turned a blind eye to the criminal conduct of a teacher and failed to protect a student,” Finaldi said.
Laura Whitehurst, 29, was arrested in July 2013 and charged with 41 felony counts of unlawful sex acts that could have meant up to 29 years in prison. She pleaded guilty to four counts of unlawful sexual intercourse and two counts of oral copulation with a person under 18 involving three boys while teaching at Citrus Valley and Redlands high schools.
As part of a plea bargain, she was sentenced to a year in jail and released after six months. She remains on probation and is required to register as a sex offender. She shares custody of the child with the former student, who is now 21, according to his attorneys.
Not all heroes wear capes, some of them are probably barely literate and blowing loads in their teachers. I know I know it’s all so reprehensible that this poor young man with his raging hormones and turgid teen erections who likely would have had sex with any warm object resembling an orifice was taken advantage of by this woman. And I’ll even give them for real that it is kind of shitty to be a teenager with no read on how strong your pullout game is to get roped into a life of parenting without fully getting what was going on there. We’ve all probably had the dread that comes with a condom breaking or a Plan B morning and that’s with adults making adult choices, subjecting a dumb teen just full of willing semen to that decision making process as an employee of a school is pretty awful.
But come on man, $6 million? Like it sucks but it doesn’t suck so bad that the kid and his kid can live stupendous lives without a care in the world forever off of it. Even if I’m feeling completely generous and understanding and maybe spent the day reading some men’s rights subreddits, there’s no fucking chance I’m going above $1 million for this kid. Totally fair award if this guy actually is traumatized from it and that way you’re hedging a little where if he’s pretending to be so traumatized just for a cash grab, at least he’s not getting to bang his teacher AND getting insanely paid off of it at the same time. I guess time will tell what this dude was really thinking going through the situation because no man can live a life with that much unearned good karma without the fates eventually looking for a payback. By my calculations, getting paid $6 million to drop multiple batches in and around your not-necessarily-unattractive female high school teacher should result in some sort of Sharknado touching down on his house and eating everything he loves. Seems like the only fair equal and opposite reaction to balance it out.
