My Choice for NFL MVP: #NotBrady

.

As subjective as the term “Most Valuable” might be, most of the time determining the MVP in any sport is fairly straight forward. If the best player on the team with the best record puts up good numbers, we’ve found our guy. Sure, it’s skewed to certain positions. Power hitters in baseball. Scorers in the NBA. And since the NFL started giving out an award in 1957, it’s been won by a running back or a quarterback all but three times. So for instance last year, Cam Newton was a mortal lock. His team won 15 games. He threw for 35 TDs and ran for 10 more. The only question was whether he’d be unanimous or not.

This year it’s different. There’s more quality competition than Newton faced. Matt Ryan put up the best passer rating while leading the most prolific offense in the league. Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliot in Dallas put together two of the best rookie seasons in history, Prescott setting a rookie passer rating record and Elliot leading the league in rushing by 320 yards. Aaron Rodgers discount double-checked 40 TDs in everybody’s face. A great case can be made for any of them.

So you’d think with such a crowded field the voters would go back to their default setting of the best player on the best team who put up great numbers. Tom Brady went 11-1. Put up an unimaginable 14/1 TD/INT ratio. And if you credit QBR as a stat (I don’t), he lead the league by a wide margin. In any year in any sport, that would be enough to wrap up the electoral college and he’d already be getting ready for the balloon drop.

But I’ve got a different candidate in the race. A.B.B.: Anybody But Brady.

Why? Why would a guy who wanted to order a Brady mask for his wife to wear in the bedroom want someone other than Brady to win the MVP? Because fuck you, that’s why.

The same scumbags in the press who vote for MVP are the ones who believed every word the NFL fed them about Brady being a liar and a cheater. The same league that lied to them about concussions and wife beaters and a million bogus officiating calls created this myth about Brady running a RICO operation and they took it like trained seals being tossed fish. And now they want to play nice by giving him an award?

Over my dead body. Nothing is forgotten. Nothing is forgiven. Bygones have not gone by. You can’t slander a man, destroy his reputation and make him a punchline across the country and then hand him a trophy like nothing happened. They made Brady out to be the villain, at least let him be the villain. Obi Wan didn’t cut Anakin to pieces and leave him lying in a river of lava only to help him up and hand him the Jedi Council Good Guy Award. I don’t want to live in a world where the GOAT gets a nice peace offering now. I want the satisfaction of him destroying the team of whoever the winner is like he did to both co-MVPs in 2003. And to go into next season with twice as many Super Bowl MVPs as regular season ones. The universe owes us at least that.

Vote for someone else. Anyone else. #NotBrady
