Hockey Player In Quebec Finds Out That Maybe You're Not Allowed To Slash Guys In The Head With Your Stick

We call that the Marty McSorley special, folks.

LHBBF – During the Friday game between the Justiciers of Saint-Joseph and the Bellechasse spikes, hockey player Bellechassois struck an opponent either René-Dave Pelchat with his stick at 12:07 in the second half. The chief referee called a penalty for a stick-kick which systematically entails a three-game suspension

…The LHBBF management will not issue any further comments until it has a status on the number of final suspension games that will be imposed on the Sparrow Hockey Player.  Note that René-Dave Pelchat des Justiciers remained in the match scoring the equalizing goal at the end of the third period. Bellechasse nevertheless took 7 to 6 in overtime to create the tie 1 to 1 in this semi-final series.

Okay so a couple of things here right off the bat. 1) I’ve never heard of the LHBBF (Ligue de Hockey Beauce Bellechasse Frotenac) but after throwing LHBBF into Google and YouTube, I can say wholeheartedly say that I need more LHBBF in my life. 2) That article is translated from French so if it’s hard to follow, here’s what happened.

Rene-Dave Pelchat plays for the Justiciers of Saint-Joseph. Here’s the most recent HockeyDB entry on that name.

24 years old, last played competitively over 5 years ago. Now he plays in the LHBBF where his skull was used as a baseball while Louis-Philippe Carrier decided to tee off on him because it’s hockey and what else is he supposed to do? Carrier plays for the Bellechasse Spikes and here’s his most recent HockeyDB entry.

3 games in the Q while most of the “Go Pres Go” crowd were still in diapers. So what we have here are a couple of heroes who couldn’t quite make it all the way but are still doing everything they can to keep the dream alive. That is, of course, until Louis-Philippe Carrier decided to go full assault mode and tried to take some dude’s head off.

Somehow that play only landed him a 3-game suspension for now. I’m sure that’ll get increased somewhere down the road but in most situations in life, using a large stick to slash somebody else in the face lands you in jail for a while. In hockey, however, you just have to sit out the next 3 games that you were probably going to get healthied for anyway. What a sport. But yeah, at 22-years-old I think this kid may have just kissed any chance he had of getting out of the LHBBF goodbye. Love the aggression but maybe tone it down a notch. Just chill out, man. Nobody wants some psycho like that running around literally trying to take people’s heads off. Because while you’re sitting in the box, Claude and Xavier have to go out the next shift and get run at from behind as retaliation. Kind of being a dick teammate here and that’s before we even start to talk about you as a felon.

Between this slash, the suplex from yesterday and the Jr B player who climbed into the crowd to fight a fan over the weekend, amateur hockey sure is having itself a week. Make Hockey Violent Again.

P.S. – Looks like your average night in the LHBBF.
