In my never ending effort to stay woke, I want to do my level best to understand how today’s protest is supposed to work. Sincerely. I’m fascinated by the process here as someone who’s never taken part in a protest of any kind. I’ll interject that I would’ve gotten arrested at the NFL office a couple of years ago with the other guys if I was working at Barstool at the time. And with my boyish good looks I wouldn’t lasted a minute in a NYC police lockup before someone made me Belle of the Ball. But besides that I’ve never actually cared about anything enough to join a demonstration. So I’m going to try to wrap my brain around #ADayWithoutAWoman.
These SJWs are mad because on average women don’t make as much as men. So it would seem to me that they have two options: Take it up with their employer and demand more money the next time their contract is up. Or, demand more respect for the work they do by … not showing up to work.
I mean, that’s it, right? This is purely symbolic? There’s no specific agenda here. This isn’t the Homestead Steelworker’s Strike. Men shutting down a mill because Henry Clay Frick tried to break their union and dying at the hands of the Pinkertons. It’s about feelings. Take the day off, close down the schools, wear red and stay home and watch Ellen and … what? Every payroll department in the country will start issuing checks to anyone with a vagina?
And by the way, if you happen to be a member of the sisterhood who isn’t taking the day off? Who can’t afford to? Or has an important job like working in a critical care facility or running a business? Who depends on a school schedule to make sure their kids are in good hands for a few hours on a weekday? Fuck you. Cry #ADayWithoutAWoman a river. The school staffs of Virginia, North Carolina, New York and Maryland don’t care that you’ve got a 7-year-old who needs supervision. Or an education. Figure it out. They give zero fucks about your responsibilities, your commitments or the important work you do. There are vague points to be made about fairness or something. Not to mention a paid day off for pretending to make a difference in the world.
